Dear Foreign Teacher,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to discuss an issue regarding the way groups are formed during our oral English practice sessions. I have a concern about the random grouping method you have been using, and I would like to offer some suggestions for a more suitable approach.
Firstly, I would like to express my opposition to the current random grouping method. While I understand that it aims to promote interaction among students and encourage them to communicate with different classmates, I believe it has some drawbacks. Random groups may result in imbalanced distribution of English proficiency levels within each group. Some students may feel overwhelmed or left behind if they are constantly paired with more advanced speakers, while others might not have the opportunity to challenge themselves and improve their language skills by being paired with peers of a similar level.
Considering these concerns, I would like to propose an alternative method for forming groups that I believe would be more effective. Firstly, grouping students based on their English proficiency levels would create a more conducive learning environment. This way, students with similar abilities can support and learn from one another, while also allowing the teacher to tailor the activities and tasks to suit the specific needs of each group.
Secondly, it would be beneficial to consider students' individual interests and learning goals when forming groups. For instance, some students may be more interested in discussing current events, while others may prefer focusing on everyday conversations or specific topics like technology or culture. By taking these preferences into account, you can create groups that share common interests and motivations, thus fostering a more engaging and enjoyable learning experience.
Lastly, periodically rotating group members could provide an opportunity for students to interact with different classmates, ensuring a well-rounded language practice and promoting a sense of inclusiveness and cooperation among the entire class.
I believe that implementing these suggestions will not only address the concerns raised but also enhance the effectiveness of our oral English practice sessions. By creating balanced and interest-based groups, every student will have the chance to improve their English skills, build confidence, and actively participate in discussions.
